We have been waiting for Apologia’s Exploring Creation with Chemistry and Physics book! It was released just this year– and just in time for my 11yr. old to use it before moving into junior high science.

Exploring Creation with Chemistry and Physics

This is the second series where we have purchased the accompanying notebooking journal. I love this option! When we first started the Exploring Creation series years ago, notebooking journals weren’t an option. There are two version available– the regular version and the jr. version for younger elementary children. The regular notebooking journal contains:

  • Daily Schedule – It is broken down into 2 lessons per week. My daughter uses this to see what she needs to accomplish.
  • Notebooking pages
  • Foldables/Mini-books (lapbook-type elements)
  • Vocabulary Crosswords
  • Copywork
  • Simple lab pages to recount what projects were done during the unit.
  • Listing of additional books to read for that lesson and other activities to do that correlate with the topic.
  • What Do You Remember page for each lesson.

Experiments are my daughter’s favorite assignment! Since she is on the upper-end of the age-range for this series, she is able to do most of the projects without much help. I have her read through and jot down what supplies we will need for the week.  There is a complete list at the back of the book which makes this task easy.

Most of the supplies are pretty common. One of the experiments in the first chapter does suggest using a graduated cylinder, but you could improvise if needed. We happened to have one on hand because her older sister is currently taking the high school level Apologia Chemistry.

When it is experiment time, all my younger kids love to watch! This experiment was safe enough for Lil Pumpkin to do all by herself! It gave her great practice pouring! (The liquid is just water with food coloring in it. We thought it would be easier to measure if it was colored water.)

This science book is just what my daughter needed this year. We’ve started other chemistry units over the years but never got very far. We are both very familiar with the format of the Exploring Creation Books, so she should be able to do much of this without much help from me. I make sure she reads, narrates, and does her experiments safely! :) We are looking forward to learning even more about chemistry and physics this year!
