It’s spring! One of our favorite spring-time activities is to plant seeds! I’ve teamed up with Lauren from Mama’s Learning Corner to create free seed printables for toddlers through elementary ages!

Learning About Seeds: Toddler & Preschool Activities

1. Plant seeds!

We purchased some seed kits from the dollar spot at Target. We do this every year because my toddlers love planting and taking care of their seeds and they usually end up loving these seeds to death. My 3 younger girls each planted different plants: basil, sunflowers, and poppy flowers. We also have fun growing our own egg heads! We’ll do this again this year too.

2. Seed sort.

Use 3 -5 different seeds (depending on your child’s ability) and have them sort the seeds by like kinds. What do they notice about seeds? Are seeds all the same shape? Same color? Same size? (For tiny seed observation and sorting we used a stick ice-cube tray and printables from Montessori Print Shop.)

3. Seed Search.

Look around your house and your backyard and see how many seeds you can find! You might be surprised how many seeds are out in plan sight! Are there some seeds that you can eat? (Also talk about the dangers of eating certain seeds.)

4. Make a seed collage.

Using an assortment of seeds, glue seeds, glue seeds on a heavier piece of cardstock or cardboard.

5. Learn plant vocabulary.

We used several printables to learn about the parts of a plant, then we made plant signs to place in our garden.

6. Sing some seed songs!

Songs and rhymes are a great way to teach young children new things. Here are two rhymes we used while learning about seeds.

7. Make a flower craft (also can be used as a Bible lesson.)

Using a free flower printable and basic craft supplies, children can learn about how God knows what they need and cares for them.
