Last week I had so much fun planning and hosting an essential oil Make and Take party! We learned a little about essential oils, made lip balm, vapor rub and bath salts!
With just a few key ingredients you can easily make a myriad of homemade skincare products. I try to always have beeswax, Coconut Oil and shea butter on hand– plus my essential oils. With just those ingredients I can make lip balm, foot bars/hard lotion bars, baby lotion, vapor rub, insect repellent and more. I love to make homemade gifts using essential oils! Here’s what we made:
Homemade Lip Balm
Our Make and Take party had 3 stations– lip balm/vapor rub station, bath salt station, and learning about oils station. My friend and fellow oil user, Connie from The Daisyhead, helped me man the stations (check her blog out for a Peppermint Oil Balm for Hot Flashes recipe.)
For this event we made grapefruit lip balm. Next time I want to make a batch of honey-lemon lip balm! I wrote about how to make lip balm here. After the sticks had cooled, we took washi tape and put a strip around each tube. It was a quick and easy way to add a decorative touch!
Homemade Bath Salts
Supplies needed:
1 cup Epsom Salt
½ c. Dead Sea salt (or regular sea salt will work too)
¼ c. baking soda
5-8 drops essential oils (we picked lavender)
Mix everything together and pour into a jar with a lid. We used 4 oz. jars since these were small gifts to give. Use about 1/2 c. in a bath or foot bath and soak no longer than 15-20 min. This spa treat helps detoxify your body so be sure drink water before/after pampering yourself with this treatment.
Homemade Vapor Rub
Supplies needed:
1/8 c. beeswax
¼ c. olive oil
¼ c. almond oil
8 drops eucalyptus radiata essential oil
5 drops of rosemary essential oil (or lemon)
5 drops of peppermint essential oil
Double-boiler, wooden skewer, small containers.
1. Measure and place ingredients into a glass dish (I use a glass measuring cup.) Place in a double-boiler. Stir with a wooden skewer.
2. Once melted, remove from heat. Let it cool slightly before adding essential oils.
3. Add your essential oils. Stir with the skewer.
4. Pour into 2 oz containers. Let it cool before placing cap on.
Modifications:
Instead of using the oils listed above, add 8-10 drops of RC essential oil.
For young children:
You can use the following oils instead: 5 drops lavender, 5 drops lemon, 2 drop eucalyptus radiata.
It was great knowing exactly what went into each product! We’re moving more and more toward chemically-free living!
